Three Cups of Tea

“That day Haji Ali taught me to share three cups of tea, to slow down, to make building relationships as important as building projects” -  Mortenson

'Three cups of tea' by Greg Mortenson and David Olive Relin.

What did I just read? A documentation of a real incident?  An inspiring story of a man? Well, this book is everything I needed for #nonfictionnovember

Imagine a small village in Karakoram mountains, unnoticed human beings, their needs, their everyday struggle and the unfulfilled promises they have heard constantly about building a school, Oliver Relin has documented their entire life in a book and talked about a real hero Greg Mortenson,  who has faith in humanity, who wanted to fulfill his promise, he has made to illiterate village head

Mortenson,  a mountaineer, who got lost in an impoverished village is rescued by Khorphe villagers, while staying with them, he learns that the village has no schools and the students had to sit in the icy floor to listen to the teachers, who teach in another villages, occasionally come to Khorphe to teach the students here. He promises the chief Haji Ali to build a school in Khorphe.  Mortenson writes 580 letters to the organisations and the people in America about the condition of the students in Khorphe  village, when he gets help from a wealthy man, happily he returns to Khorphe, to his shock, he learns that they first needed to build a bridge in order to carry the stones for building a school, despite of the disappointment,Mortenson gets amazed by the determination of the villagers and their patience. He goes back to America without knowing the series of disappointments he had to face there, Will he build a school in Korphe as he promised? Well, He didn’t build one school, Mortenson built fifty two schools! This book is wholesome, the story of a simple man who believed in humanity despite of the hardships he had to  face. When the talibans were transforming the innocent children into terrorists, Mortenson was educating them.He respects the values of religion, stands with the innocent villagers and the children despite of the fatwa.

This book is impeccable! 'Generalising' is stupidity, Mortenson teaches you that.
