'Boat Wreck' by Tagore

‘When the soft morning sunlight finally touched their eyes, both of them were startled into wakefulness. They looked around in astonishment for a few minutes before it dawned on them suddenly that they were not at home, that they had been cast adrift’

- 'The Boat Wreck' by Tagore🍂

Ramesh Chaudary didn’t know that a boat wreck would bring a tremendous change in his life, he falls in love with a prudent young lady, Hemamalini.

Hemamalini's intelligence and prudence captivate his wits, but his reticent demeanour stops him from revealing his feelings to Hemamalini, in the mean time, Ramesh’s austere father arranges his marriage with Sushila.

Even though he is against to his father’s will, the wedding takes place without Ramesh’s consent because of his father’s obdurate temperament.  Ramesh travels with Sushila and his family in a boat.

That night tornado which wrecked the boat, changes his fate🍂

This is not merely an another refined Indian classic, this is a beautiful painting with exquisite plot.

The excellence of Tagore’s works is known to all Indian Readers, ‘The Boat Wreck’ is not an exception.  I immensely enjoyed the translation of Arunava Sinha. He has translated the startling imageries in a refined language.

The words are weaved in a soothing tone. The resilience of the character Kamala moved me to tears.

Amidst the breezy plot, Tagore has sketched the strong and empowered female characters, Tagore is one of the broad minded classic writers, who never portrays timid female characters. His female characters will always depict the strong and non parochial thoughts.

The novel is set in Calcutta and Kashi. He has given a distinction between Brahmo society and strict Hindu principles in the early 1900 Bengali society.

The aesthetic language and ravishing character sketch will certainly please all Indian literature connoisseurs.

I enjoyed writing review for this book as much as I enjoyed reading it🍂
