Sputnik Sweetheart
Review?! I dunno🦋
I guess I should dedicate two posts to this spectacular story.
Murakami is a poet, he is an eccentric poet who weaves a poetry into a novel. 'Sputnik Sweetheart' is a strange, wild, haunting poem which got transfigured into a novel by a warlock and my odd therapist 'Haruki Murakami'.
An inquistive woman Sumire, who listens to beautiful songs, reads amazing books, writes a story but struggles to complete it, falls in love with an attractive lady Miu.
Miu adores Sumire, but she has a profound feud with her past. She struggles to accept her love.
The story of Sumire and Miu was discreetly noticed by an unknown 'K' who is more than a friend for Sumire. Though 'K' has sexual affairs with many women, he loves Sumire from the bottom of his heart, which makes him listen to her pontificates in the early mornings and late nights.
Sumire figures out her sexuality after seeing Miu. She has never got sexual fantasies in her life until she meets Miu. But Sumire is reluctant to express her love. Her moves are unsettled.
Things change after Miu utters these words to Sumire about her long lost pet cat.
'I never had a cat again, I still like cats but I couldn't forget that poor little cat who climbed the tree and never returned. I couldn't forget that little cat and start loving other'.
AND...
Sumire vanishes like a smoke🍂
'Spuntnik Sweetheart' is a 'Realisation'. Your soul realises your needs before you do. A part of you will always remain in this wretched earth even if you get lost in the quest for love.
The character sketch of 'Sumire' reminded me of 'Midori' from Norwegian Wood and obviously 'K' is a replica of 'Toru Watanabe'. Again 'Mysterious Cats' intervene Murakami's plot. But this time I was blown away because of Murakami's psychological interpretation of the relationship between human mind and queer demeanor of cats in understanding the dead emotions.
In my next post, I will be analysing 'Sputnik Sweetheart' from 'Pyscho analysis' perspective.
Not an exaggeration, I know that Murakami books are not for everyone, but still I wanna pester and torture you all to read this book😭❤Sorry for being a hellion!
