POONACHI BY PERUMAL MURUGAN.

Hello Bookish Sweethearts💕

'Do you think a female has it any better? It is better to die than to go to through the ordeal of birthing up kids' Poonachi by Perumal Murugan.

'Poonachi' by Perumal Murugan is a heart wrenching tale of a pitch black goat! That is it? Noooo🍂

It was one of those grumpy mornings in my life when I was looking for a translated novel to read and luckily I chose Poonachi! Yes! 'POONACHI'. The story of poonachi starts in an Odakkan hill, An Old man sat on Odakkan hill with empty heart and suddenly a gigantic figure appeared before him with a goat. A small, black vulnerable doe. The gigantic figure looked mysterious, the old man reluctantly accepted the goat, before thanking him, the figure wafted and disappeared. The old man was clueless about the doe so is his wife when he brought it home. But who knows the beautiful pitch black Poonachi would tell the readers about the fragility of worldliness.

The story is more like a fable and it resembles George Orwell's 'Animal Farm'. The narration is splendid, this is one of the best narrations I have read, fortunately it wasn't ruined by lame translation which I have witnessed in many Japanese novels!🥀

The 'Goat' is an allegory of human emotions and there are so many personifications and weak satire in the story line. The setting is in a rural village in South India, it concentrates on how farmers lead their life and their rustic persona. It is hard to imagine 'Poonachi' in magical realism genre because of the realistic setting and breath taking storyline. 🍂

Blah Blah Blah... Enough! If you are looking for a short great read, C'mon don't procrastinate! Pick this up🙆‍♀
