MURAKAMI'S NORWEGIAN WOOD
' I once had a girl or should I say she once had me' 🥀 - Beatles Norwegian Wood.
Hello my Bookish Sweethearts💕🌻
'Norwegian Wood' is my first ever novel of Murakami's that I read two years back and felt mind boggling because of the profound storyline and disturbing character sketch. This book is written under the genre of bildungsroman, a genre which concentrates on the reveries of the protagonist in past.
Many of us take a retrospective look at our past lives, so is the protagonist Toru Watanabe who struggles to find a meaning in his complicated love life. Toru has a deep friendship with Kizuko and his girlfriend Naoko, when Kizuko commits suicide, they drift apart. The storyline revolves around three prominent characters, Naoko, Toru Watanabe and Midori Kobyanshi.
These three characters have different perspectives in their life and in the eventual part, all perspectives reconcile. Murakami has introduced misogynistic tendencies in an egoistic man Nagasawa who overlook human emotions.
The beautiful metaphor/ symbol used in this novel is 'Great Gatsby'. Nagasawa and Toru Watanabe both love reading Great Gatsby but their perspectives of the novel is different. If you have read 'Great Gatsby', then the striking similarity hits you hard.
After reading this book, I was disturbed for two days😂 because of the devastating narration and the ending.🍂 This is one of the great books that I picked up!
Listen, If you are looking forward to reading Murakami's books, please don't start with this, not because it is not a great book, but because I don't want you to get addicted to his writing style like a maniac. And also, if you are depressed or stressed, don't pick up this. 🌻 Otherwise, this book is for every reader. I want you to change your perspective about romantic fiction🍂🥀
